Bryanston School, Blandford, Dorset, DT11 0PX Applications are now welcome for the 2012 course. For the fourth year in a row we are returning to the superb facilities of Bryanston School. This is a great opportunity for students from music conservatoires, university music departments, specialist music schools and anyone wanting to develop and improve their cello skills in a supportive and friendly atmosphere. It is a chance to take stock with like-minded people without the pressures of departmenal/college life and enjoy time in Dorset! If you are preparing an application to a music college, preparing final recitals or learning new repertoire for public performance then this course is a great opportunity to work on these.Standard The courses are inclusive but for reasons of practicality there is a minimum playing standard of about ASB Grade VIII (but this is not strict) and the age range is quite wide because the facilites are so good and we can cope with younger students as well college level participants up to advanced post-graduates. Mature students are also welcome. Teaching faculty Alexander Baillie – international cellist and renown teacher, based in Germany at the Bremen Hochschule and recently joined the teaching faculty at Guidhall School of Music and Drama in London. Pierre Doumenge – international cellist and professor at Guildhall School of Music and Drama Matthew Lowe - freelance player with BBCSO and tutor at Eton College. Charles Medlam – international baroque specialist and gamba player. Founder member of the internationally renowned chamber music group London Baroque. William Bruce – Head of Strings at Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Cellist in English National Opera and well-know pedagogue with many publications on teaching and learning the cello. Tim Lowe - teacher at Senior and Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Guest principal cello English Chamber Orchestra. Recitalist. Sue Lowe – cello tutor at the University of York and Eton College, ex-Chethams School of Music. Artistic Director of the International Cello School. Timetable/programme You will have an individual cello lesson on each day of the course and you can then build your programme around this ...rehearsals with pianists, individua practice, listening to the public masterclasses, swimming or simply enjoying the lovely surroundings. This year masterclasses will be given by Sandy Baillie and Pierre Doumenge and private lessons will be given by Sue Lowe, Matthew Lowe and a number of other teachers.There will also be recitals by the teaching staff and a student recital.
Sue Lowe is the overall director of the course and aims to design an individual teaching programme for each student. This attention to specific needs is a unique feature of these courses. Applications are welcome from overseas students. The teaching staff have a detailed knowledge of college and conservatoire opportunities in the UK and will provide guidance and advice. The course is genuinely international with students from around the world. Access to Bryanston is easy through the London airports.Detailed arrangements Please apply as soon as possible from now on. The closing date is 10 March 2012 (we have to give numbers to the school). On public transport you should go by train from London Waterloo to Poole where you will be collected. We will post up recommend train times soon. The price of the course is £750 which includes full board, hire of facilities, teaching fees, entrance to recitals...everything you will need. The school menu is very varied and good quality with many options. Accommodation is in school boarding houses with modern facilities and with your own room where you can practice.
